Family Relationships

1 ^aChildren, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 ^b Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), 3 so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.

4 ^cFathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but ^dbring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

5 ^eSlaves, be obedient to those who are your ^{▼▼ I.e. earthly masters, with fear}masters according to the flesh, with ^gfear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, ^has to Christ; 6 ⁱnot ^{▼▼ Lit according to}by way of eyeservice, as ^kmen-pleasers, but as ^lslaves of Christ, ^mdoing the will of God from the ^{▼▼ Lit soul}heart. 7 With good will ^{▼▼ Lit rendering}render service, ^pas to the Lord, and not to men, 8 ^qknowing that ^rwhatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord, ^swhether slave or free.

9 And masters, do the same things to them, and ^tgive up threatening, knowing that ^uboth their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is ^vno partiality with Him.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, ^wbe strong in the Lord and in ^xthe strength of His might. 11 ^yPut on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the ^zschemes of the devil. 12 For our ^aastruggle is not against ^{▼▼ Lit blood and flesh
,} ^acflesh and blood, but ^adagainst the rulers, against the powers, against the ^aeworld forces of this ^afdarkness, against the ^agspiritual forces of wickedness in ^ahthe heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up ^aithe full armor of God, so that you will be able to ^ajresist in ^akthe evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, ^al having girded your loins with truth, and having ^am put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having ^anshod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 ^{▼▼ Lit in all}in addition to all, taking up the ^apshield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the ^aqflaming arrows of ^arthe evil one. 17 And take ^as the helmet of salvation, and the ^atsword of the Spirit, which is ^authe word of God.
